Tutoree is used by children, so this page is written to be read by a parent rather than by a lawyer. It says what we collect, where it lives, who can see it, and how to make it go away.
Who holds the account
An adult guardian holds the household account. Children get their own sign-in, but the guardian holds the billing, the settings and the controls. A child cannot change the household’s plan, its settings, or another child’s account.
Children under 13
An account for a child under 13 cannot be created without a guardian’s verified consent, and that consent is recorded. This is enforced in the software: the path that creates a student account refuses to run without it. It is not a preference you can switch off.
What we collect
From the guardian: name, email address, the household’s timezone and region, and the payment details required to run a subscription. Card numbers are handled by our payment provider and never reach our servers.
From the student: their display name, year level, and anything they say or type in a lesson. Lessons are transcribed, and voice lessons produce an audio recording. We also keep what they got right and wrong, because that record is the product — it is what lets a question come back until it sticks.
We do not sell anything we collect, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles of children.
Where it is stored
Lesson records, transcripts and recordings are stored in Sydney, Australia. Every household is isolated from every other at the database level rather than by application code, so one family’s data is not reachable from another family’s session even if the application is wrong.
Who can see it
You can see your own children’s lessons. Every transcript, every result, every week. There is no private world between the tutor and your child.
Siblings cannot see each other. Two children in the same household cannot read each other’s lessons or results.
Children cannot see the household’s billing or controls. Those live behind a guardian-only boundary.
A small number of our staff can reach production data when they are fixing a fault or responding to a safety report. That access is limited to those purposes.
AI, and what happens to what your child says
Aria is an AI tutor. What your child says is sent to our model provider to produce the reply, and is screened for safety before it is spoken back. We do not permit that content to be used to train third-party models.
How long we keep it
Lesson records are kept while the account is open, because their value to your child is that they persist — a mistake from March is what makes June’s revision work. Audio recordings are kept for a shorter period than transcripts and are then swept.
Deleting a child, or the whole household
You can ask us to delete a child’s account or the entire household. Deletion removes the lesson records, the transcripts and the stored audio — the recordings are removed, not merely unlinked. When it is done, we will tell you it is done.
You can also ask for a copy of what we hold about your child. Write to support@tutoree.ai from the guardian’s email address on the account.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your family’s information, write to us first at support@tutoree.ai. If we cannot resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
